“I would say the most important fashion trend which I totally agree with that was identified last night was the whole asymmetrical, one-shoulder. That was prevalent. You could see it…other than that it was classic, long dresses,” Schwartz tells ET.

Which star sizzled most on the red carpet? “The night belonged to Blake Lively …she was heads-and-heels above everyone else,” Schwartz says of the crimson, elegant frock worn by the “Gossip Girl” actress.

Taylor Swift arrives with pure class and sparkle at the 2009 VMA Awards.  While Swift may have been upstaged by West during her speech, she steals the red carpet in this slinky one-shoulder KaufmanFranco silver sequin number. You can’t argue with drop-dead gorgeous.

Rachel looks stunning in a black lace-topped dress with satin bottom or should we say skirt. Did she really lob three feet off the bottom of Stella McCartney’s Resort 2010 Collection Gown? Of course we’d rather believe that than the thought that she actually ‘tucked’ the jacket into a satin skirt. The look is classic and charming and or course being worn by Rachel McAdams doesn’t hurt a bit.

Rumer Willis styles the Stella McCartney black lace jacket with pants. While not really wowing us for the red carpet, we do love this jacket! The geometric-edged black lace around the neckline and down to the waist is exceptionally flattering and tasteful. The delicate lace holds subtle contrast to the structured jacket and padded shoulders.

Lady Gaga celebrated winning the Best New Artist VMA  for “Poker Face” in Jean Paul Gaultier. The lavender padded silk corset is from the 2009 Gaultier Paris Couture.   And to think we always wondered just where anyone would wear the likes of some of the Haute Couture productions that are paraded down the runways.

Lady Gaga, in true-to-form theatrics, changed costumes like a pro.  From arriving with Kermet the Frog in a Gaultier black lace gown complete with half-face mask, to the Trekkie-like corset above, and even an outtake from the Lion King, we covorted through what seemed like six-one-act plays.  Clearly an Haute Couture Stimulus Package in the making.

The Fashion Gods are gagging – and it’s not with glee. Its with complete confusion over the following news: Lindsay Lohan – yes, the actress who can barely get hired for a film – has just been appointed the “Artistic Director” for Ungaro. In the off chance you are not a fashion geek, here is a brief on the house of Ungaro and why it’s haute: the Paris based luxury label was launched by Emanuel Maffeolit Ungaro, an Italian born, French designer. He officially debuted in 1965 with a womenswear collection and steadily expanded to menswear and fragrances. Ungarao went from strength to strength until the 2005 sale of the company to Pakistan born tycoon Asim Abdullah. Since Ungaro’s departure, his namesake company has undergone a series of interesting changes, the most recent of which is Lohan’s hiring. In her new capacity Lohan will work with Ungaro’s new chief designer Estrella Archs to make the brand “younger.”

How about just making the clothes good?

That’s a goal Ungaro has yet to achieve, even with the hiring of then 23 year-old designer Esteban Cortazar in 2007. The talented youth predictably failed to capture media or retail interest with his collections. The issue was less about age and more about experience, a category in which Lohan also comes up kinda short. But that’s no issue for Mounir Moufarrige, Ungaro’s CEO, who seems to believe all press is good press.

“Odds are it could work,” he told Womens Wear Daily. “Everything we’re going to get is going to be a plus. I think the noise level around Lindsay will be very, very big.”

All the better to distract from the number of customers Lindsay’s involvement will attract, which will be very, very small.

Possibly one of the simplest and best finds of the fall fashion season is the end (hopefully) of the dreaded muffin tops. Denim lovers everywhere wake up, snap out of it, take a good, long look in the mirror—and then follow these denim dos to help us rid the streets of the horrendous muffin top!

So, given that we’ve seen FAR too muffin mishaps in our time, we’re calling out to denim lovers everywhere to wake up, snap out of it, take a good, long look in the mirror—and then follow these denim dos to help us rid the streets of the dreaded muffin top!

#1 DO: Get jeans that FIT. You think it’d be pretty obvious, right? Don’t buy a pair of jeans if you have to squeeeeeeze the button shut. How comfy can it be to be constantly bulging out of your jeans, anyways? Buy jeans that cover your curves.

#2 DO: Add an inch or so to the back rise. Fortunately more people are catching on to the muffin top problem, and are opting for pants that sit a little higher in back but still low rise in the front. This is how we make our jeans at indi. By adding a little to the back rise, we ensure appropriate coverage of this “problem” area, while still avoiding the “mom” jeans look.

#3 DO: Wear a long shirt. The problem of a too tight/too low waistband is only half of the muffin top battle. If, say, the above unfortunate fashion victim had invested in a better fitting, longer shirt, the love handle overhang wouldn’t be such a big offense.

Bottom line—don’t try to squeeze it all into somewhere it doesn’t belong. Trust us, the people walking behind you will thank you.
